About BAPCCO

The Barbados Association of Private Child Care Operators Inc. (BAPCCO) was officially registered and legally incorporated under the Companies Act of Barbados on June 14th 2002 as a Non-Profit Organization. BAPCCO serves as the representative body of Registered Private Child Care Operators in Barbados.

BAPCCO seeks to the betterment of its members and private child care facilities in Barbados.

The Corporation Is Formed To:

  • Provide support and guidance to private childcare operators.
  • Set and maintain standards of operation within the guidelines of the Child Care Board.
  • Guide the development of staff and centers within the scope of its operations.
  • Provide liaison with sectors of society on behalf of its members.
  • Foster concord and co-operation among private child care operators.

Membership:

Membership of the Association – BAPCCO is open primarily to any entity that offers childcare or facilitates child development and learning such as: – day-care, nursery school, pre-school, kindergarten, learning / development clinic dedicated to providing the best possible quality, educational / developmental childcare.

Mission:

The Barbados Association of Private Child Care Operators Inc. – (BAPCCO) exists primarily as an educator; For the purpose of leading and consolidating the efforts of operators and stakeholders working to achieve quality childcare, healthy development and constructive childcare programmes.

Aims and Objectives:

In the spirit of cooperation, you will agree to the following aims and objectives:
  • To provide a Centre of excellence from which participating facilities providing support for Barbadian community can implement and develop their programmes.

Aims and Objectives cont’d.:

  • To collectively close facilities during unfavorable weather conditions (When the Government – Ministry of Education; announce closure or the executive of BAPCCO deems it necessary to close).
  • To act as a unified advocacy group to lobby Government for legislation that ensures the rights of operators and associated groups.
  • To provide a focal point for parents, Funding Agencies, NGOs and Health Care Professionals in order to increase awareness in childcare.
  • To secure facilities from which professional seminars and workshops can be held for empowering of owners/directors, staff (caregivers, preschool teachers & assistants), stakeholders in childcare / development and parents of children with and without disabilities.
  • To offer an environment from which people can carry out research.
  • To develop programmes that seek to enhance education and developmental opportunities for children with and without disabilities.
  • To participate in additional training to maximize personal capacities to support and teach all children regardless of their ethnic or social background.
  • To maintain in good and safe condition all manner of teaching aids, toys, furniture and equipment specifically used in childcare.
  • To assist the association in any activity that will enhance the professionalism of service from professionals either local or from overseas who can share their knowledge and provide training; and fundraising events.
  • To be satellite Centre’s in each of the Barbados parishes.
  • To engage in and maintain coordination among the various childcare/day-care facilities, associations supporting and advocating for their best interest.
